My Dad by David R. Kenney

Warren F. Kenney & David R. Kenney
in Columbus, Ohio on June 9, 2013

Warren Franklin Kenney, 70, of Martinsburg went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born July 11, 1944 at Sardis, OH he was the son of the late George Wittenbrook and Hazel Marie Henthorn  Kenney.    He was baptized by C. W. Rock on November 22, 1958.   He  is survived by his wife, whom he married May 26, 1965, Kay Eileen Stonebraker Kenney; one son, David Raymond Kenney and wife, Annette Marie Kenney, of Bedford, OH; two daughters, Sherry Lynne Kenney of Martinsburg and Hazel Marie Martin of Centralia, IL; four grandchildren, Alec Gregory Kenney, Jacob Thomas Martin, James William Kenney, and Deborah Anne Kenney; and one brother, Robert Eugene Kenney.   He was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Ray Kenney and Kenneth Emerson Kenney.

Dad was a 1970 graduate of the Nashville School of Preaching where He studied under such men as Charles R. Brewer, B. C. Goodpasture, J. Roy Vaughn and Basil Overton.  He was the minister with Central Church of Christ in Martinsburg since 1989 and preaching the Gospel for over 45 years.  Dad began full time preaching in July 1969.  Of preaching, dad made this comment:  “My favorite part of preaching is the pulpit.  I love teaching people the grand old truths that they might not otherwise know.  I believe the Bible is an exciting, living book, and I do my best to convey that to the people I am privileged to teach.”  His personal motto of preaching was these words from a great older preacher to a younger preacher he considered his son in the faith:  “Take heed to yourself and  the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you” (1 Timothy 4:16, NKJV.)  Dad held gospel meetings all over Ohio, Illinois, West Virginia and elsewhere.  One point he was particularly proud of was holding a gospel meeting every year from 1971 to 2008 in Graysville, Ohio.  His last gospel meeting was with us here in Wadsworth, Ohio in the Spring of 2014.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM and 7:30PM to 9:00PM at the Central Church of Christ, 90 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV.  Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 2:00PM at the Central Church of Christ with Mark Everson, Don Deitrick, Ed Floyd, Brent Gallagher, Dwight Butler, and his son, David R. Kenney officiating.  Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 2:00PM with Sam Bartrug and Randy Chapman officiating, at West Union Church of Christ and Cemetery in West Union, OH.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Central Church of Christ, 90 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.

No matter how many words I could write about my love for my dad, words will fail to satisfy.  He was the greatest father, role model, mentor, preacher and supporter I could have ever asked for.  The battle he fought was hard, but he faced each challenge with grace, strength, dignity and love for his wife, children and family.  Our Heavenly Father has tremendously blessed me through the earthly father He gave to me and keeps safely for me until the Day.
